Corrections Policy
Public Journal UK is committed to accuracy, transparency and accountability in all of our editorial output. We strive to ensure that every article is thoroughly researched, fact-checked and reviewed before publication. When errors occur, we correct them promptly and clearly.
If an article contains an error, Public Journal UK will review the issue and, where appropriate, update the article with a correction note. Readers can report potential inaccuracies at corrections@publicjournal.co.uk.
Definitions
Material errors are significant factual inaccuracies that could mislead a reader on a matter of public importance — for example, a misstated statistic, a wrong date for a policy change, or an incorrect attribution of a quote. These errors are corrected with a prominent note explaining the nature of the mistake and the date of correction.
Minor errors include typographical mistakes, punctuation issues, formatting glitches or small factual slips that do not affect the overall meaning or integrity of the article. These are corrected silently, though the updated date on the article is refreshed.
Timelines
We aim to acknowledge all reported errors within two working days of receipt. Following verification of the inaccuracy, a correction — material or minor — is typically applied within 48 hours. If the correction requires additional research or editorial deliberation, we will communicate the expected timeline to the reporter.
How corrections appear
For material errors, a clear correction note is appended at the top of the article with the original error described and the corrected information, along with the date of the correction. For minor errors, the article is updated and the published date is refreshed; no separate note is added unless the error was substantive enough to warrant one.
Escalation and responsibility
All incoming corrections are first reviewed by Nathan Cole, Fact-Checking & Standards Lead (email: nathan.cole@publicjournal.co.uk, phone: +44 20 4587 2196). If a correction raises broader questions about editorial standards, the matter is escalated to Margaret Ellison, Editor-in-Chief and Responsible Publisher, who holds final editorial responsibility for all corrections, content decisions and ethical guidelines.
Published dates and updates
Every article on publicjournal.co.uk displays both the original publication date and, if applicable, the date of the most recent update. This allows readers to see at a glance whether the piece has been revised.
Annual review
This Corrections Policy is reviewed annually. The current version was last updated in October 2024. Any changes to the policy will be published here and communicated to our editorial team.
