This page explains how Public Journal UK finds, weighs and verifies information — the official bodies we rely on, and the independent publications we monitor alongside our own reporting. It is maintained by the standards desk under Nathan Cole and reviewed regularly.
How we weigh evidence
In order of reliability: primary documents and official data, then named experts and regulators, then reputable secondary reporting. A claim that cannot be traced to at least one of these is not published as fact.
Our sourcing principles
- Primary sources first. Public Journal UK relies on primary sources, official records, public data, expert commentary and clearly attributed references where possible.
- Sensitive claims are reviewed. Claims involving statistics, public policy or health information are reviewed before publication.
- Attribution. Key claims, figures and dates are attributed to a named, checkable source.
- Independence. Commercial partners do not influence editorial coverage unless content is clearly marked as sponsored.
- Correction over ego. When we are wrong, we fix it promptly and visibly.
