Editorial Policy
Public Journal UK is committed to producing accurate, independent and transparent public-affairs coverage for UK audiences. This Editorial Policy sets out how we select, review and publish content, and the standards we uphold.
Content selection and editorial process
Public Journal UK follows an editorial process designed to ensure accuracy, independence and transparency. Articles are reviewed by an editor before publication, and sensitive topics may undergo additional fact-checking. Content is selected based on its relevance to UK public debate, policy, economy, education, health and news. Our editorial team prioritises primary sources, official records and public data, and all articles are drafted by named writers. Fact-checking of statistics, policy and health claims is led by our Fact-Checking & Standards Lead, Nathan Cole. Final approval is given by an editor before publication.
Editorial independence
Editorial decisions are made independently by the Public Journal UK editorial team. Commercial partners do not influence editorial coverage unless content is clearly marked as sponsored. Our Independence Statement is as follows:
“Public Journal UK maintains full editorial independence. No external party, including advertisers, sponsors or commercial partners, has any control over editorial content. All editorial decisions are the sole responsibility of the Editor-in-Chief and the editorial team.”
Sponsored content
Any content that has been commissioned, paid for or influenced by a commercial partner will be clearly labelled as “Sponsored” or “Promoted” at the top of the article. Such content is produced in accordance with our editorial standards but is distinguished from independent editorial coverage.
AI and automation disclosure
Public Journal UK may use digital tools to support research, editing, formatting and content review. All published editorial content is reviewed by a human editor before publication. The use of such tools does not replace human editorial judgment or accountability.
Review and updates
This Editorial Policy is reviewed annually by the Editor-in-Chief, Margaret Ellison, who has overall editorial responsibility for publication policy, source criticism, corrections, ethical guidelines and final editorial decisions. Any substantive changes will be communicated to readers via an updated version of this page.
