Jimmy Kimmel: Wife, Movies, Tickets, and Live Tonight

Born: November 13, 1967 · Show launched: January 26, 2003 · Network: ABC · Wife: Molly McNearney (m. 2013) · Oscars hosted: 4 (2017, 2018, 2023, 2024)

Nine facts, one pattern: the family dates are private and stable, while the career dates keep moving.

What this means: the last two rows — the contract and the episode milestone — are the ones most likely to change first.

Who is Jimmy Kimmel?

Jimmy Kimmel is the comedian, writer, and producer who has hosted Jimmy Kimmel Live! on ABC for more than two decades. His path ran through radio and Comedy Central before late-night made him a familiar face in millions of households.

Those two sentences are safe to repeat anywhere; they are the part of his biography that does not change. The details that do change — contract renewals, guest lineups, and the occasional rumor — need fresher verification.

What is Jimmy Kimmel’s background?

• Born November 13, 1967, in Brooklyn, New York (Wikipedia).
• Became co-host of The Man Show on Comedy Central in 1999.
• Launched Jimmy Kimmel Live! on ABC on January 26, 2003 (The Washington Times).
• Has hosted the Academy Awards four times: 2017, 2018, 2023, and 2024.

The biography is useful context, but it is not where the news is. The news is in the contract status and the show’s future, which is why that is the next thing to check.

Does Jimmy Kimmel still host Jimmy Kimmel Live?

The contract picture has more texture. ABC renewed Kimmel’s deal in December 2025 for a term extending through May 2027, and Kimmel said he would never stop doing things, even as he distinguished retirement from leaving the late-night program (USA TODAY). TheWrap reported the renewal was a one-year extension rather than the show’s typical three-year deal.

• Summer 2026 guest host: Rosie O’Donnell filled in for part of Kimmel’s hiatus (The Washington Times).

Kimmel and his wife, Molly McNearney, also discussed retirement on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast; McNearney said Kimmel stepping away appealed to her for the household’s nervous system (The Washington Times). The conversation made headlines because the question of when Kimmel leaves is now a live business question for ABC.

The implication: the show is on the air, but the length of its runway is an open business question, not a settled fact.

Who is Jimmy Kimmel’s wife?

• Molly McNearney, an executive producer and head writer associated with Jimmy Kimmel Live! (The Washington Times).
• Married Kimmel in 2013.

McNearney’s professional identity is tied to the show she helps write and produce, which makes the couple’s public life unusual: they work on the same program most nights. The 2013 marriage date is stable across every profile and has never been part of the rumor cycle.

What this means: when McNearney talks about retirement, she is not just a spouse commenting on a career — she is a producer with a direct stake in the show’s schedule.

What movies has Jimmy Kimmel appeared in?

• Voiced roles in family movies, including The Boss Baby franchise.

Film has never replaced television in Kimmel’s career; the voice roles are extensions of his comedy brand rather than a second act. Search interest in “Jimmy Kimmel movies” tends to spike when one of the animated sequels lands on streaming, which is when the credits resurface.

The pattern: his movie list is short, family-friendly, and rarely the actual reason someone is looking him up. The same split between biography and headlines applies to other comedians, which is why our Seth MacFarlane profile covers net worth, politics, and relationships in one place.

Why are people searching for “Jimmy Kimmel sad news today”?

Search spikes around “Jimmy Kimmel sad news today” follow a familiar cycle: an old clip is recirculated, a headline is stripped of context, or a rumor moves across social media faster than any newsroom can verify it. As of the latest reporting in September 2026, no confirmed personal tragedy has been announced for Kimmel (USA TODAY).

That absence of confirmation is itself the story. It does not mean something is being hidden; it means the searches are running ahead of the facts, which is exactly the pattern that produces celebrity death hoaxes.

Is Jimmy Kimmel sick or injured?

Some versions of the rumor borrow from real history. Kimmel’s son Billy had heart surgery in 2017, and Kimmel discussed it openly in a monologue; that genuine and emotional moment is sometimes recycled into “sad news” posts years later. Other versions are tied to the show’s contract uncertainty, which is real but not a personal tragedy.

The reliable move is the same in every version: wait for an official statement from Kimmel’s team or a major news organization before treating the claim as true.

How do you verify a celebrity death rumor?

1. Check the celebrity’s own official social media or website first.
2. Confirm the story with at least two independent, established news organizations.
3. Look at the article’s date; old or recycled stories often resurface as new.
4. Search the person’s name alongside “hoax” or “debunked.”
5. If there is no official confirmation, treat the claim as unverified.

This is the same discipline that applies to any fast-moving celebrity news: name the source, check the date, and ask whether the outlet has a direct line to the person or their representative. The same questions that debunk a fake death rumor also work on contract rumors, which is useful because the Kimmel contract story has produced both verified and unverified versions.

The takeaway: absence of confirmation is not news, and treating it as news is how these searches get a second life. British comedian Jack Whitehall has drawn the same mix of biography and rumor searches; our Jack Whitehall biography covers his family and relationships with the same source-first approach.

What time is Jimmy Kimmel Live on tonight?

Jimmy Kimmel Live airs weeknights on ABC at 11:35 p.m. ET and 10:35 p.m. CT. The exact start time can shift with affiliate schedules and preemptions, so the practical habit is to confirm against your local ABC listing.

What channel does Jimmy Kimmel Live air on?

Channel: ABC · Time: 11:35 p.m. ET / 10:35 p.m. CT · Days: Weeknights · Type: Late-night talk

The show is taped in Hollywood, California, and is part of ABC’s late-night lineup. For most viewers, the “what time” question is really a “is it new tonight?” question — reruns and fresh episodes feel different, and the difference shows up in search volume every time the show returns from a break. Guests and episode status change by date and market, which is why the network’s local listings are the most reliable guide.

Does Jimmy Kimmel Live air new episodes tonight?

• New episodes air when the show is in production; the 2026 summer hiatus reportedly began after the June 18 episode (USA TODAY).
• Reruns and guest hosts fill the gaps; Rosie O’Donnell guest-hosted part of the 2026 hiatus (The Washington Times).
• Local ABC listings are the final authority for tonight’s episode.

The week Kimmel returned in September 2026, USA TODAY listed Andrew Garfield and Joey King for September 8, Mariska Hargitay and Kaia Gerber for September 9, and Gal Gadot for September 10 (USA TODAY). That kind of guest list is a useful signal: when the network publishes named guests, the episode is almost certainly new.

The pattern: the schedule is predictable until it is not — local preemptions and breaking news override the default time.

Who is on the Jimmy Kimmel Live cast?

The on-air team around Kimmel is small and unusually stable for a show that has run for more than two decades. That stability is part of the brand: viewers see the same faces, the same band, and the same announcer night after night.

Who currently appears on Jimmy Kimmel Live?

• Jimmy Kimmel — host (The Washington Times).
• Guillermo Rodriguez — recurring sidekick and security guard.
• Cleto Escobedo — bandleader of Cleto and the Cletones.
• Dicky Barrett — announcer.

Rodriguez appears as a recurring sidekick and security guard, a running gag that has become one of the program’s most consistent features. Barrett’s voice introduces the show, and Escobedo’s band plays the show in and out of every commercial break.

Who leads the Jimmy Kimmel Live band?

• Cleto Escobedo leads the house band, Cleto and the Cletones.

The band’s name and Escobedo’s role are part of the show’s standard credits. Guest hosts add another layer: Rosie O’Donnell filled in for part of Kimmel’s 2026 summer hiatus (The Washington Times), a reminder that the show is built to keep airing even when the host takes a break.

The pattern: every stable face on the show reinforces the same dependency — when Kimmel negotiates, the whole franchise waits on the result.

How can I get Jimmy Kimmel Live tickets?

Audience tickets for Jimmy Kimmel Live are free in the literal sense: the show does not sell them. They are also non-transferable, tied to the name on the request, and limited by each taping date’s capacity.

Are Jimmy Kimmel Live tickets free?

The non-transferable rule is the reason the secondary market is a trap. A “guaranteed” ticket for sale online is, at best, a request that has already been put in someone else’s name; at worst, it is a fake. The show’s official channels cost nothing and carry the only confirmation that matters.

What is the best way to request Jimmy Kimmel Live tickets?

1. Open the show’s official website or the authorized ticketing partner and find the audience tickets page.
2. Create an account if the request system requires one.
3. Select a taping date and submit the request with the legal name of each guest.
4. Wait for the show’s confirmation; do not pay a third party for a “reserved” seat.
5. Follow the pickup and entry instructions on the day of the taping.

Availability changes with the production calendar, audience requirements, and short-notice schedule shifts. The official process is the only one that can put a real seat in your name, and it is the only one that costs nothing.

The trade-off: free tickets are easy to request and easy to misuse — one name mismatch can turn a free seat into a lost evening.

Where can I watch Jimmy Kimmel Live on YouTube and listen to the podcast?

The broadcast is only one way to see the show. The audio podcast and the official YouTube channel extend every episode into a second life for listeners and viewers who miss the 11:35 p.m. slot.

Is Jimmy Kimmel Live available as a podcast?

• Yes — an audio version of the show is released as a podcast on streaming platforms including Spotify.

The podcast version is the easiest way to follow the show without watching it. It keeps the interviews and monologues, strips the video, and fits into the same subscription apps people already use for music.

Does Jimmy Kimmel Live post episodes on YouTube?

• Yes — the show’s official YouTube channel posts highlights, clips, and segments.
• Full episodes are available on ABC.com and licensed streaming partners where available.

The YouTube channel is built around moments rather than full episodes, which is why a clip can go viral the morning after a show airs. For complete episodes, ABC.com and licensed streaming partners are the stable options; the podcast covers the audio side of the same library.

Why this matters: the podcast and YouTube channel keep the show visible to people who never watch it live, which is also the audience most likely to search “Jimmy Kimmel” in the first place.

Key dates in Kimmel’s career

Eight dates, one pattern: nearly every milestone either launched a show, a marriage, or a return to the Oscars stage.

The dates before 2025 are stable biography. The dates after 2025 are the ones that matter for the show’s future, and the outcome of the reported talks will decide whether the next row gets added or the table stops growing.

The implication: until ABC or Kimmel makes the next announcement, the table’s last two rows are placeholders, not endpoints.

Confirmed facts vs what’s still unclear

The fastest way to read Kimmel news is to sort it into two piles: verified facts and open questions.

Confirmed facts:

• Kimmel has hosted Jimmy Kimmel Live! on ABC since 2003 (The Washington Times).
• His wife is Molly McNearney, an executive producer and head writer on the show (The Washington Times).
• ABC renewed his contract in December 2025, through May 2027 (USA TODAY).
• Kimmel returned September 8, 2026; the show passed 4,000 episodes; ABC denied a cancellation report (USA TODAY).

What’s unclear:

• Whether the show is renewed beyond the 2026–27 season; ABC and Kimmel were reported to be in talks (TheWrap).
• Whether Kimmel will eventually leave late-night; the retirement discussion was a podcast conversation, not an announcement (The Washington Times).
• Whether any “sad news” event has occurred; no official confirmation exists (USA TODAY).
• Tonight’s guests and episode status; both vary by date and market.
• Audience ticket pickup rules; they can change with short notice.

The balance of this list is the point: the confirmed facts are real but limited, while the open questions are exactly the places where rumors and speculation take hold. When a headline about Kimmel appears, the first question is which list it belongs on.

Quotes that show the stakes

Two moments capture the tension in Kimmel’s public life: a personal health crisis that became a public argument about health care, and a business negotiation that became a public guessing game about his future.

“No parent should have to decide if they can afford to save their child’s life.”

— Jimmy Kimmel, in his 2017 monologue about his son Billy’s heart surgery

Kimmel delivered that line in the weeks after Billy’s surgery, and it connected his family’s experience to a broader health-care debate. The quote still resurfaces in comment sections and search results, especially whenever children’s health care is in the news.

ABC renewed Kimmel’s contract in December 2025 for a term extending through May 2027.

— USA TODAY, September 2026 report

The contract line matters for a different reason: it is the most recent confirmed fact about how long Kimmel is committed to ABC. Everything else about his future — the one-year extension, the reported talks, the retirement talk — sits on top of that date (TheWrap).

Kimmel and McNearney discussed retirement during an appearance on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast.

— The Washington Times

What made the conversation notable was not the word “retirement” but the framing: McNearney said Kimmel stepping away appealed to her for the household’s nervous system, and Kimmel said he would never stop doing things. Together, those two comments describe a couple weighing a life change, not a host announcing an exit.

What the next few months will tell us

Kimmel’s future has two layers. The show is under contract through May 2027, and ABC has denied any plan to end it early (USA TODAY); beyond that date, the deal is reportedly still being negotiated (TheWrap). Kimmel’s own comments suggest he wants to keep making things, even if the late-night format is not forever. For fans planning a studio visit, the decision is clear: request tickets through ABC’s official process, or risk paying a reseller for a non-transferable seat.
