What is Belinda Carlisle best known for?
Belinda Carlisle is an American singer and songwriter, best known as the lead vocalist of The Go-Go’s, the all-female rock band she co-founded in 1978, per Wikipedia (encyclopedia reference). The band’s debut album Beauty and the Beat was a commercial breakthrough, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard 200, per Yahoo Entertainment (music news outlet).
Her solo work built on that momentum. Her memoir, Lips Unsealed, was published in June 2010 and became a New York Times Best Seller, according to Biographies.net (biography database).
When did Belinda Carlisle join The Go-Go’s?
- She did not join a finished act. She co-founded The Go-Go’s in 1978, per Wikipedia (encyclopedia reference).
- Co-founder Jane Wiedlin played guitar; the later lineup included Charlotte Caffey, Gina Schock and Kathy Valentine, per Wikipedia (encyclopedia reference).
The Go-Go’s released Vacation in 1982 and Talk Show in 1984 before breaking up in 1985, per Encyclopedia.com (reference archive). The band’s record shows a short, intense run rather than a long catalogue.
When was Belinda Carlisle’s first solo album released?
- Belinda was released in 1986 on I.R.S. Records, per Wikipedia (encyclopedia reference).
- The single Mad About You reached No. 3 on the US pop chart in 1986, per Fandango (music biography site).
Her biggest solo result came later. Heaven Is a Place on Earth topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 1988 (AllMusic (music database)), and it also reached No. 1 in the UK, per Yahoo Entertainment (music news outlet).
Her strongest verifiable record sits in the 1980s, with a Hot 100 No. 1 that AllMusic and Yahoo Entertainment both document. Any claim about her current standing needs its own source.
The implication: her reputation rests on The Go-Go’s and a short run of American hits, not on a long string of later chart wins. Use that as the baseline before accepting any claim about her current profile.
Who are the members of Belinda Carlisle’s band?
The five members named when The Go-Go’s entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021 were Carlisle, Jane Wiedlin, Charlotte Caffey, Gina Schock and Kathy Valentine, per Yahoo Entertainment (music news outlet).
Which bands has Belinda Carlisle been part of?
- The Go-Go’s: all-female rock band, formed 1978, lead vocalist Carlisle, per Wikipedia (encyclopedia reference).
- Reunion: the band reportedly reunited in 2025 for two major festival performances, including Coachella, per Ken Phillips Group (artist biography).
Current touring members are not confirmed. No primary source in our research set names a 2026 lineup, so we do not name one.
A reunion headline tells you less than a roster from the band’s own channels. Any 2026 lineup should be checked there before it is repeated.
The catch: the reunion is the weakest part of the lineup story, since its only support here is a tier-3 site. Confirm the roster from official announcements first.
What songs has Belinda Carlisle released?
Her best-documented hits cluster between 1986 and 1989, and each has a named chart record.
- Mad About You: No. 3 on the US pop chart in 1986, per Fandango (music biography site)
- Heaven Is a Place on Earth: Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 in 1988, per AllMusic (music database)
- I Get Weak, written by Diane Warren: No. 2 in the US, per Yahoo Entertainment (music news outlet)
What is the song Leave a Light On by Belinda Carlisle?
- Leave a Light On comes from Runaway Horses (1989), which reached the US Top 40 (uDiscover Music (music history site)).
- George Harrison played guitar on the track, per uDiscover Music (music history site).
- It peaked at No. 4 in the UK, per uDiscover Music (music history site).
What is the album Listen to Belinda by Belinda Carlisle?
- Listen to Belinda is reported as a 2003 album with 14 songs.
- No independent source confirms that release, so treat the details as unconfirmed.
Her later studio albums include Live Your Life Be Free (1991), Real (1993) and A Woman & a Man (1996), per Wikipedia (encyclopedia reference). Her 2007 album Voila consisted of French-language pop covers, according to Ken Phillips Group (artist biography).
The pattern: the best-documented hits cluster between 1986 and 1989, so questions about later albums need separate checks.
Is Belinda Carlisle touring in 2026?
No confirmed 2026 tour dates appear in the sources we checked. DeepReport reportedly states that she has not announced a tour, but that page is a low-confidence, tier-3 source, per DeepReport (low-confidence blog).
Where can official tour dates for Belinda Carlisle be checked?
- The artist’s official website and verified social accounts are the first place to look.
- Verified ticketing platforms list confirmed dates with purchase links.
- Re-check at publication time, because tour schedules change.
A 2026 tour page with no ticketing link and no official domain should be treated as unconfirmed, whatever its headline says.
The implication: a 2026 tour answer is only as reliable as its primary source, and none in this research set provides one.
What is known about Belinda Carlisle’s family?
Carlisle married political operative and film producer Morgan Mason in 1986, per Wikipedia (encyclopedia reference). Encyclopedia.com dates the marriage to April 12, 1986, per Encyclopedia.com (reference archive).

- Mason is the son of actor James Mason, per Wikipedia (encyclopedia reference).
Does Belinda Carlisle have a daughter?

- Skiddle, according to its listing, gives his birth date as April 27, 1992 (Skiddle (event listings site)).
- No daughter is named in the research set, so that question stays open.
Her public account of a difficult childhood is the most personal material in this research set. It sets the limit for what we print about her private life.
The catch: the marriage is documented, but other family detail leans on thin sources, so keep the public record narrow.
Career timeline
Eight dated points show a clear pattern: the firmest dates cluster in the 1980s, while the most recent entry rests on one tier-2 source.
| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| August 17, 1958 | Born in Hollywood, California, per Fandango (music biography site) |
| 1978 | The Go-Go’s formed, per Wikipedia (encyclopedia reference) |
| 1981 | Beauty and the Beat reaches No. 1 on the Billboard 200, per Yahoo Entertainment (music news outlet) |
| 1985 | The Go-Go’s break up, per Encyclopedia.com (reference archive) |
| 1986 | Solo debut Belinda released on I.R.S. Records, per Wikipedia (encyclopedia reference) |
| 1988 | Heaven Is a Place on Earth tops the Billboard Hot 100, per AllMusic (music database) |
| 2021 | The Go-Go’s inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, per Yahoo Entertainment (music news outlet) |
| August 29, 2025 | Ninth solo album Once Upon a Time in California released, per Wikipedia (encyclopedia reference) |
Why this matters: the 1980s entries anchor her reputation, while the 2025 release is the only recent dated milestone backed by a tier-2 source.

In their words
Two voices frame the story: an editorial biography on the band’s launch, and Carlisle herself on her early life.
“Our Lips Are Sealed and We Got the Beat were classic New Wave hits from the multi-platinum debut Beauty and the Beat.”
Fandango editorial biography, per Fandango (music biography site)
“Mine was being embarrassed by our poverty and living with a violent stepfather. So my attitude was You think I’m so bad? Well I’m going to show you.”
Belinda Carlisle, in an interview with The West Australian (regional newspaper)
The implication: the editorial line confirms the band’s chart record, while Carlisle’s own words are the only direct voice on her childhood, so they should be quoted rather than extended.
What this means
Her 1980s record is the firmest ground, documented across AllMusic (music database) and Yahoo Entertainment (music news outlet). The later record is thinner, with a 2025 album on firm ground and a 2026 picture that remains open. For fans planning a ticket purchase, the choice is clear: wait for a confirmed date on the artist’s official channels, or treat any 2026 listing as unconfirmed.
