Ask a few fans what Bo Burnham is doing now and you will probably get a shrug, a memory of Inside, and a rumor about a famous partner. The public record is thinner than that gossip: concert listings from Hypebot (concert listings site) show no 2026 tour dates, so this piece separates what is confirmed from what is only reported.
Date of birth (reported): August 21, 1990 · Netflix comedy special (debut): Make Happy (2016) · Netflix comedy special (2021): Inside (2021) · Feature film written and directed: Eighth Grade (2018)

Is Bo Burnham up to anything?
No new stand-up tour or confirmed project appears in the supplied sources. Ticketing listings show no 2026 dates, and the only new work tied to Burnham is a reported directing project that no official source has confirmed.
Has Bo Burnham announced a 2026 tour?
Hypebot’s artist page says Burnham is not currently on tour and has no dates scheduled for 2026 or 2027. Catchmovement lists zero upcoming shows, and Gotobeat lists no scheduled events.
The ticketing sites word their findings differently, but they agree on the core point: none lists a stand-up tour. A December 2026 screening of Eighth Grade is a different kind of event, and it should not be counted as a tour.
The most specific lead is a World of Reel report dated May 28, 2026. It says Burnham has set up a directing effort titled Outside, with cinematographer Jody Lee Lipes attached, and it notes that nothing official has been confirmed. Wikipedia’s discography page (Wikipedia) lists Burnham as co-writer and additional vocalist on several songs on Phoebe Bridgers’ album Lost Weekend, released in August 2026.
Confirmed:
- Inside was released on Netflix on May 30, 2021, per the Wikipedia biography.
- Hypebot lists no 2026 tour dates for Burnham.
Reported, unverified:
- The Outside directing project, reported by World of Reel without official confirmation.
- Burnham’s credits on Lost Weekend, listed on Wikipedia’s discography page and not yet confirmed by the album’s label or a trade outlet.
- A December 11, 2026 Eighth Grade screening in Los Angeles, reported by Pre-tend, a low-authority source.
- A Reddit community post claiming no clear activity since 2022 and a film called Outside, which is unverified.
Why doesn’t Bo Burnham perform anymore?
Burnham announced in 2016 that he would step away from performing live. According to the Wikipedia biography, he later attributed the decision to anxiety and on-stage panic attacks.
Has Bo Burnham retired?
No retirement announcement appears in the supplied evidence. A step away from live performance is a pause, not a formal exit from comedy. Burnham’s return came with Inside (2021), which he made alone in the guest house of his home during COVID-19, without a crew or an audience. Netflix released it, and it won a Peabody Award.
Treat any retirement claim as unverified until Burnham or his distributor makes a dated statement. The accurate description in the sources is a pause from live work that began in 2016 and ended with a filmed special in 2021.
The pattern: the stage break ended with one filmed special rather than a tour, and no later live run has been confirmed in the sources checked.
Has Bo Burnham been in a movie?
Yes. Burnham wrote and directed the feature film Eighth Grade in 2018, and he has also acted in at least one feature.
What films did Bo Burnham write and direct?
- Eighth Grade (2018): written and directed by Burnham, per the Wikipedia filmography.
- 8 (2017): directed Jerrod Carmichael’s special for HBO, per the Wikipedia filmography.
- Tamborine (2018): directed Chris Rock’s special for Netflix, per the Wikipedia filmography.
- Promising Young Woman (2020): Burnham played Ryan Cooper in the cast, per the Wikipedia filmography.
- Winning Time (HBO): Burnham was cast as Larry Bird in March 2021 and left in August 2021 because of scheduling conflicts.
This is a story I could never tell. This is a perspective I don’t have. After doing my own things, it’s like I really like the idea of, I just want to serve someone else’s vision.

What this means: Burnham’s screen career runs on both sides of the camera, and his writing and directing credits carry more weight in the record than his acting roles do.
Are Bo Burnham and Phoebe Bridgers still together?
Britannica’s entry on Phoebe Bridgers says she dated Paul Mescal from 2020 to 2022 and later began a relationship with Burnham. Harper’s Bazaar, writing on August 18, 2026, reports that neither has officially confirmed the relationship.
Have Bo Burnham and Phoebe Bridgers confirmed their relationship publicly?
No. Romance speculation has circulated since late 2022, with linked appearances that include the 2024 Grammys. Neither party has made an official statement in the sources checked. Bridgers’ tribute to Burnham on stage is a public gesture, not a statement about their status.

Wikipedia also lists a reported relationship with filmmaker Lorene Scafaria from 2013 to 2022, with no confirmed marriage.
The partner question is the most contested in the sources. Wikipedia gives December 2022 as the start of the Bridgers relationship, while the research notes flag 2020, 2021, and 2022 versions, so any single start date should be treated as provisional.
The implication: the only defensible present-tense statement is that a relationship with Bridgers has been reported, and neither of them has confirmed it.
What condition does Bo Burnham have?
Burnham has not named a diagnosis in the supplied evidence. What he has said publicly is narrower: he linked his 2016 decision to step away from live performance to anxiety and on-stage panic attacks.
What has Bo Burnham said publicly about his mental health?
Inside, released on Netflix on May 30, 2021, is the work tied to that period. Burnham made it alone at home during COVID-19, and the sources connect it to his earlier comments about anxiety, without adding any medical detail beyond what he has said.
Quote only Burnham’s own words, taken from the special or a dated interview, and do not turn them into a diagnosis.
What this means: readers should separate what Burnham has disclosed from what fans infer, because the sources give no medical detail beyond his stated anxiety and panic attacks.
